MTMIS Sindh: Vehicle Verification, Number Plate, Token Tax and E-Challan
MTMIS Sindh is the name most people use for the online vehicle services of the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department, Government of Sindh. With these services, you can verify a car or motorcycle, track a new number plate and work out your tax. You can also pay it online and check traffic e-challans, often without visiting an Excise office.
What Is MTMIS Sindh?
MTMIS stands for Motor Transport Management Information System. In Sindh, the term refers to the computerised motor vehicle records of the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department. Specifically, the department administers vehicle registration and motor vehicle tax under the Sindh Motor Vehicle Taxation Act, 1958 and the Motor Vehicle Rules, 1959.
The system also links Karachi with regional directorates in Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana and Mirpurkhas. As a result, a vehicle registered anywhere in the province sits in one connected record, and you can check it from anywhere with an internet connection.
Strictly speaking, there is no single website called "MTMIS Sindh". Instead, the department runs its services on its official website, excise.gos.pk, a separate tax portal for payments and two mobile apps. Traffic e-challans, meanwhile, belong to Sindh Police. That spread is exactly why this guide exists.

How to Use MTMIS Sindh Online
Most MTMIS Sindh services follow the same simple pattern, so once you learn one, the rest feel familiar.
- Choose the service. Open the matching card above, or go to the Online Services page on excise.gos.pk.
- Pick the vehicle category. For example, select Four Wheelers for cars, jeeps and similar vehicles, or Two Wheelers for motorcycles and scooters.
- Enter the key detail. Type the registration number exactly as it appears on the number plate, or the CNIC where the service asks for it.
- Complete the security check. Solve the captcha so the system knows a real person is searching.
- Read and save the result. Take a screenshot, because you will want it later during a sale or transfer.
Registering or Transferring a Vehicle in Sindh
Online checks help you before and after a deal, but registration and transfer still end at an Excise office. In Karachi, motor registration work takes place at the Civic Centre, while each region has its own Excise office.
For a transfer, the buyer and seller usually need their original CNICs, the vehicle's registration book or smart card, the sale documents and proof that token tax is paid up to date. The department has also introduced biometric verification for registration and transfer, so both parties may need to attend in person. Before you go, confirm the current checklist with the call centre.
Transfer fees in Sindh are fixed amounts that depend on the vehicle, as published by the department:
| Vehicle | Transfer fee |
|---|---|
| Motorcycle or scooter | Rs 500 |
| Rickshaw | Rs 800 |
| Car or jeep up to 800cc | Rs 1,600 |
| 801cc to 1,500cc car or jeep | Rs 2,000 |
| 1,501cc to 2,000cc car or jeep | Rs 3,000 |
| 2,001cc to 3,000cc car or jeep | Rs 5,000 |
| Above 3,000cc car or jeep | Rs 7,000 |
| Heavy transport vehicle | Rs 4,000 |
Keep in mind that withholding tax on transfer can add far more than the transfer fee itself, especially for non-filers. Our Sindh vehicle tax calculator guide explains every charge.
What Changed for Sindh Vehicle Owners in 2026
Sindh has tightened vehicle enforcement over the past year, so several MTMIS Sindh checks now matter more than before.
Ajrak Security Number Plates
The province replaced old number plates with Ajrak-design plates that carry security threads, 3D holograms, barcodes and a camera-readable background. After several extensions, the replacement deadline ended on 31 December 2025. Therefore, if you applied and still wait for your plate, a Sindh number plate check shows exactly where it stands.
Faceless E-Challans Across Karachi
Sindh Police launched TRACS, its camera-based e-ticketing system, in Karachi in October 2025. By March 2026, officials reported more than 600,000 e-challans, and thousands of vehicles with unpaid fines were placed on a blacklist. So, check your record on our e-challan Sindh guide before it catches you at a checkpoint.
Tax Defaulters Face Registration Cancellation
On 5 August 2026, the Sindh Cabinet approved a policy for vehicles that have not paid tax since July 2010. According to ARY News and Pakistan Observer, owners of scrapped or unusable vehicles must file a declaration by 30 September 2026. After that, registrations of off-road vehicles with outstanding dues can be suspended after 30 days and cancelled after 60 days. The cabinet also decided that third-party insurance stays valid after a change of ownership until it expires.
Official Apps and Contact Details
In addition, the department runs the Excise Sindh app on Android and iPhone, which covers vehicle verification and the tax calculator. For payments, the tax portal itself also points users to its own payment app. Meanwhile, Sindh Police runs the TRACS 4 Citizens app for traffic e-challans.

Tips for Using MTMIS Sindh Safely
A few habits protect you from wasted trips and outright fraud:

- Ignore SMS messages that ask you to pay a fine through a link, and check the challan yourself instead.
- Avoid open transfer letters, since Karachi police now impound vehicles that are not in the driver's or owner's name.
- Recheck the record after every payment, because updates can take a few working days.
Frequently Asked Questions About MTMIS Sindh
Is MTMIS Sindh an official website?
MTMIS Sindh is a popular name, not a separate government website. The official services run on excise.gos.pk, the Excise tax portal and the Sindh Police TRACS system, and this page links to each of them.
Can I check a Sindh vehicle by CNIC?
Yes. The Excise Sindh CNIC service lists the vehicles registered against one 13-digit CNIC. For privacy, it shows only public vehicle details and never displays the CNIC or contact information.
How do I pay Sindh token tax online?
Generate a 12-digit PSID on the Excise Quick Pay portal, then pay it through 1Bill at an ATM, in your banking app, with Easypaisa or by card. Our guide to paying Sindh token tax online walks you through every screen.
Does MTMIS Sindh show the owner's name?
In short, the official result shows the vehicle's public record. To confirm ownership during a sale, compare the seller's original CNIC with the registration book or smart card, and complete the transfer at the Excise office.
Can I use MTMIS Sindh for a Punjab or Islamabad vehicle?
No. Each province keeps its own records, so use MTMIS Punjab or MTMIS Islamabad for vehicles registered there.
What is the Excise Sindh helpline number?
The department's 24/7 call centre is (021) 111-374-634. However, for e-challan questions, contact Sindh Police through the TRACS system or a TRACS Sahulat centre.
