How to Do a Sindh Number Plate Check Online
The official number plate service on excise.gos.pk needs only two details. Follow these steps:
- Open the official page. Use the button above, or go to Online Services on the Excise Sindh website and choose Check Your Number Plate.
- Choose the category. Select Four Wheelers for a car or jeep, or Two Wheelers for a motorcycle or scooter.
- Enter the registration number. Type it as shown on your current plate, with the hyphen, for example ABC-123.
- Complete the security check. Solve the captcha and press Search.
- Read the timeline. The result then shows how far your plate has moved through the three stages.
What Each Stage Means in a Sindh Number Plate Check
In short, the department's timeline uses three stages. Here is what each one means for you, and what you should do next.

Why Sindh Introduced Ajrak Security Plates
Sindh replaced its old number plates with security-featured plates as part of the Safe City project in Karachi. Put simply, the goal is clear: cameras must be able to read every plate, day and night, and criminals must not be able to copy one easily.
According to Excise Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla, the new plates carry several security features:
- Security threads woven into the background of the plate.
- A 3D hologram that is hard to reproduce.
- Barcodes that link the plate to the vehicle record.
- Camera-readable lettering that works even at night.
Beyond that, the plates come in three colours. Specifically, white plates are for private cars and motorcycles, yellow plates are for commercial vehicles, and green plates are for government vehicles. Most importantly, only plates issued through the Excise Department are valid, so plates from street vendors are not accepted.

How to Apply and Pay for a New Number Plate
Today, owners of existing vehicles apply and pay online through the Excise tax portal. Also, the process follows the same screens as a token tax payment:
- Open Quick Pay. Go to the Excise Quick Pay portal.
- Enter the vehicle details. Select 4 Wheeler or 2 Wheeler, and then type your mobile number and registration number.
- Clear any tax first. The portal expects your motor vehicle tax to be up to date before it adds the plate fee.
- Choose your branch. Select the nearest Excise branch, where you will later collect the plate.
- Generate the PSID. Calculate the amount, and then generate a 12-digit PSID, which also arrives by SMS.
- Pay the PSID. Pay through 1Bill at an ATM, in your banking app, with Easypaisa or over the counter.

How Long Before Your Sindh Number Plate Check Says Printed?
When the plates launched, Business Recorder reported a wait of about three months. Since then, huge demand has caused long queues and backlogs, especially in Karachi, so the actual time depends on your branch and the date you applied.
So, run a Sindh number plate check every week or two rather than every day. If the status has not moved for well over three months, call the call centre with your PSID and registration number.
Collecting Your Plate from the Excise Office
As soon as your Sindh number plate check changes to Printed, get ready to collect. In Karachi, plates were issued at the Civic Centre when the scheme launched, while other cities use their regional Excise offices.
Before you go, take your original CNIC, the paid challan or PSID receipt and your registration book or smart card. You will also need to surrender the old plates. Finally, fit the new plates straight away, because driving with old or fancy plates can bring a traffic e-challan.
Deadline and Enforcement
Initially, the Sindh government extended the replacement deadline several times, from August 2025 to October 2025 and finally to 31 December 2025, after long queues at Excise offices. That deadline has now passed.
