Balochistan Number Plate Status: Check If Your Plate Has Arrived

Waiting for a new number plate is one of the most common frustrations for vehicle owners in Balochistan. The Excise, Taxation and Anti-Narcotics Department now publishes a Balochistan number plate status page, so you can see whether plates for your series have reached your district office before you make the trip.

How to Check Balochistan Number Plate Status Online

Steps to check Balochistan number plate status

Conveniently, the department links the status page from the Check Your Number Plate option on excise.balochistan.gov.pk. The form needs three details:

  1. Select your district. The list covers all districts, from Awaran, Gwadar and Hub to Quetta, Sibi, Turbat and Ziarat.
  2. Select the vehicle type. Choose Non-commercial, Commercial or Motorcycle/Scooter.
  3. Enter the complete plate number. Include the series letters, the hyphen and all digits.
  4. Press Check Status. The page then shows the status for your plate range, along with the date, district and vehicle type.

Plate Number Formats by Vehicle Type

The official page also gives these examples, and your number should follow the same pattern:

Vehicle typeExample plate numbers
Non-commercial car or jeepTKA-123, BSA-456, AAA-789, BAA-001, CAA-999
Commercial vehicleTRK-123, BUS-456, TRL-789
Motorcycle or scooterMA-0001, MAQ-8987, MB-1234, MC-5678

Notice that motorcycle numbers use four digits, while most car numbers use three. So, if the search fails, check that you entered every digit, including any leading zeros.

What Each Balochistan Number Plate Status Means

First, the department groups plates into ranges within each series and gives every range one of three statuses:

StatusWhat it meansWhat you should do
ArrivedPlates in this range have reached the Excise office and are ready for collectionVisit your district office with your documents
In ProcessThe department is processing the plates, and they should arrive soonWait, and check again in a week or two
Not ReadyThe plates have not reached the district yetKeep your paid challan and check back later

In other words, the page does not track your individual plate. Instead, it tells you whether the batch that includes your number has arrived. That is still useful, because plates usually arrive in batches by series.

How Current Is the Balochistan Number Plate Status Page?

A Balochistan number plate status result is only as fresh as the department's latest update. At the time of our review in September 2026, the ranges shown on the page carried update dates from October 2023. Therefore, treat the result as a guide rather than a guarantee.

Balochistan Number Plate Fees

Notably, the Director General of Excise (North Zone) revised the number plate fees by notification in September 2025. As a result, the current rates are:

VehicleNumber plate fee
Commercial vehicleRs 2,100
Non-commercial vehicleRs 2,100
Government vehicleRs 2,000
RickshawRs 1,900
MotorcycleRs 1,800

In addition, the same notification told Excise officers to recover the difference from owners who had already paid the old rate for numbers from MAQ-0001 onwards. Meanwhile, new vehicles pay the plate fee along with their registration charges, which our Balochistan token tax calculator guide breaks down.

Personal Numbers: Your Plate Now Follows You

In August 2025, however, Balochistan changed the rules on registration numbers. Under the Personalized Registration Mark (PRM), introduced through an amendment to Rule 32 of the Motor Vehicle Rules, 1969, each number belongs to the owner's CNIC.

This rule affects your Balochistan number plate status in three ways:

  • When you sell a vehicle, the number and its plate stay with you, because the number belongs to your CNIC.
  • If you buy a used vehicle, the department issues you a new number, so you will need new plates.
  • Later, if you buy another vehicle within two years, you can apply to move your personal number onto it.

The department's guidance also explains that every existing number held by a vehicle's original owner now counts as that owner's personal number. Meanwhile, the chassis number identifies the vehicle itself, which is why a vehicle verification in Balochistan should always start with the chassis.

Vanity Number Plates

If you want a special number, the department accepts online applications for vanity number plates. Its latest notice asks applicants to deposit a Rs 5,000 processing fee through taxes.excise.gob.pk before 30 September 2026 to avoid disqualification.

Why Only Official Plates Count

Importantly, number plates from the Excise Department link your vehicle to its record, which helps police and traffic cameras identify it. However, plates made in the market, or fancy plates with changed fonts, do not carry that link and can lead to fines at checkpoints.

So, keep your paid challan in the vehicle until your Balochistan number plate status changes to Arrived and you fit the official plates. That way, it proves that you have applied if an officer asks.
