MTMIS AJK: AJK Vehicle Verification Online by CNIC or Registration Number
AJK vehicle verification is now a two-minute job. The Department of Inland Revenue, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, runs an official online service that checks a vehicle's registration record by CNIC or by registration number. So, whether you live in Mirpur or Muzaffarabad, or you are buying an AJK-registered car in Lahore, you can confirm the record before you pay.
This guide shows you both official verification portals and how to use them. It also covers what the result means, the current AJK token tax rates and the checks every buyer of an Azad Kashmir vehicle should make.
What Is MTMIS AJK?
MTMIS stands for Motor Transport Management Information System, the term Pakistanis use for online vehicle records in every province. In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, those records belong to the Department of Inland Revenue (IRD), which works under the Central Board of Revenue (CBR), AJ&K.
The department registers motor vehicles and collects motor vehicle tax under the West Pakistan Motor Vehicles Taxation Act, 1958, as adopted in AJK, and the AJK Motor Vehicles Rules, 1973. Its field work runs through two zones, North and South, each led by a Commissioner Inland Revenue.
In short, MTMIS AJK is not a separate website. Instead, it is the popular name for the IRD's online motor vehicle verification service, which you can reach through either of the two official portals above.
How to Do an AJK Vehicle Verification Online
Both official portals handle an AJK vehicle verification the same way. Follow these steps:
- Open a portal. Use either card above, since both show IRD records.
- Choose how to search. Select CNIC or MV REG. No. (motor vehicle registration number) in the Search By menu.
- Enter the detail. Type the CNIC with dashes, in the format 00000-0000000-0, or the registration number exactly as it appears in the registration book.
- Answer the security question. The newer portal asks a short question to confirm you are a real person.
- Press Search. Then compare the result with the vehicle and its documents.
AJK Vehicle Verification by CNIC or Registration Number?
Each AJK vehicle verification search answers a different question, so pick the one that fits your situation.
| Search type | What you enter | What you get | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| By CNIC | A 13-digit CNIC | The vehicles registered against that CNIC | Checking your own record, or what a seller owns |
| By registration number | The number from the registration book | The record of one vehicle | Checking a specific car or motorcycle before you buy |
For privacy, only search a CNIC with the owner's consent, for example when the seller shares it with you during a deal. Meanwhile, the registration number search suits most buyers, because the number sits on the plate and in the registration book.
What an AJK Vehicle Verification Shows
The fields can vary from one record to another. Still, an AJK vehicle verification should help you confirm the details below, and each one deserves a careful look.
| Detail | What to check |
|---|---|
| Registration number | It must match the plate and the registration book |
| Make, model and year | Watch for an older model sold as a newer one |
| Engine number | It must match the stamp on the engine |
| Chassis number | It must match the chassis stamp digit for digit |
| Owner details | The name should match the seller's original CNIC |
| Tax details | Unpaid motor vehicle tax usually passes to the new owner |
Two Official Portals: Which One Should You Use?
People often ask whether both links are genuine, so here is the short answer: yes. For a start, the first page sits on the IRD's own website, ird.ajk.gov.pk, and carries the credit of the CBR's MIS Wing. Meanwhile, the second, mvvs.admin.gok.pk, is the IRD's newer service, built by the AJK IT Board and branded "Department of Inland Revenue, AJ&K".
The gok.pk address may look unfamiliar. However, the Government of AJK uses it for several official services, including the AJK Police driving licence system, the government employees' portal and the fuel subsidy registration portal. So, you can use either portal with confidence, and switch to the other if one is busy.
Just as important, avoid lookalike websites that ask you to pay for an AJK vehicle verification. After all, the official check is free, and it never asks for your bank or card details.
AJK Token Tax Rates 2025-26
Once your AJK vehicle verification is done, check the tax. Notably, the AJK Finance Act, 2025 replaced the motor vehicle tax schedule from July 2025. The Legislative Assembly passed it on 26 June 2025, and the government published it in the official Gazette on 14 July 2025. Here are the rates for private vehicles:
| Private car, SUV or van (up to 7 seats) | Motor vehicle tax |
|---|---|
| Up to 1,000cc | Rs 10,000 lifetime |
| 1,001cc to 1,300cc | Rs 1,500 a year |
| 1,301cc to 1,500cc | Rs 2,800 a year |
| 1,501cc to 2,000cc | Rs 5,000 a year |
| 2,001cc to 2,500cc | Rs 8,000 a year |
| Above 2,500cc | Rs 12,000 a year |
Motorcycles and scooters pay Rs 1,500 once for life, and passenger rickshaws pay Rs 3,000 for life. In other words, a small car or a bike in AJK pays its motor vehicle tax only once.
Commercial Vehicle Tax in AJK
Goods carriers, on the other hand, pay an annual tax based on their maximum laden weight, from Rs 600 for vehicles up to 1,400 kg to Rs 3,600 for those above 16,000 kg. The same schedule lists Rs 180 for public service vans, coasters and buses, and also for private mini buses and buses with more than seven seats.
| Goods carrier (maximum laden weight) | Annual tax |
|---|---|
| Up to 1,400 kg, including tricycles | Rs 600 |
| 1,401 kg to 4,000 kg | Rs 850 |
| 4,001 kg to 7,000 kg | Rs 1,450 |
| 7,001 kg to 12,000 kg | Rs 2,050 |
| 12,001 kg to 16,000 kg | Rs 2,400 |
| Above 16,000 kg | Rs 3,600 |
The AJK Legislative Assembly also passed a new Finance Act with the 2026-27 budget in June 2026. So, confirm the current rate with your IRD office before you pay, especially for commercial vehicles. For a quick estimate across provinces, try our vehicle tax calculator.
Buying an AJK-Registered Car Outside Azad Kashmir
Many AJK-registered cars, especially from Mirpur, end up for sale in Punjab and Islamabad. That is exactly why an AJK vehicle verification matters so much, because the buyer often lives hundreds of kilometres from the office that holds the file.
Buyers who have gone through the process also report a few practical points:
- Verify first, online. Run the registration number search before you travel or pay a deposit.
- Expect the transfer to happen in AJK. The IRD office that holds the file handles the transfer, so plan for a visit or a trusted local representative.
- Keep the provisional certificate safe. After you apply, the office may issue a provisional ownership certificate while it prints the new registration book.
- Ask about re-registration. If you want local plates, ask the IRD office about a no objection certificate before you register the car in your own province.
Above all, never rely on photocopies alone. Ask to see the original registration book, and make sure the seller's CNIC matches the owner in the record.
Red Flags an AJK Vehicle Verification Can Reveal
A clean record is certainly reassuring. Even so, the real value of a check lies in the warning signs it exposes.
No Record Found
First, re-enter the number exactly as written in the registration book, and try the other portal. If the vehicle still does not appear, it may belong to another province's records, or it may carry fake papers. In that case, do not buy it until the IRD office confirms the record.
Numbers Do Not Match
Similarly, a different chassis or engine number can point to tampering, a cloned identity or an engine change that nobody recorded. Therefore, stop the deal and report the vehicle to the IRD office and the police.
The Seller Is Not the Owner
If the owner in the record differs from the person selling, ask why before you go any further. An agent or relative may be genuine, but you should still meet the registered owner, or see a proper authority letter, before paying.
Other AJK Online Services for Vehicle Owners
Besides AJK vehicle verification, the Government of AJK offers a few more digital services that vehicle owners use:
- AJK Tax Asaan app: the IRD's app, launched in February 2026, verifies payment slips (PSID and CPR) and checks the Active Taxpayer List.
- AJK Police driving licence system: licences issued in AJK sit on the AJK Police DLIMS service.
- Fuel subsidy portal: the government ran a registration portal for AJK motorcycle owners under the Prime Minister's Special Fuel Relief Scheme.
AJK Vehicle Verification Problems and Fixes
Most failed AJK vehicle verification searches come down to a small detail. So, the table below lists the usual ones.
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| "No record found" | A typing error, or the wrong search type | Select CNIC or MV REG. No. correctly, then re-enter |
| CNIC not accepted | Missing dashes or digits | Use the format 00000-0000000-0 |
| Page does not load | A busy server or network block | Switch to the other official portal |
| Security page before the form | Website protection checking your browser | Wait a few seconds, or turn off any VPN |
| Old owner still shown | The transfer is not complete in the record | Ask the IRD office when the record will update |
